A 5th Birthday Par-Tea

A friend of ours was throwing a tea party for her daughter's 5th birthday and needed a little assistance with ideas for decorating and activities. She asked us to help her out and we came in right on time. Our friend had her hands full as she was the baker, chef and coordinator for the party. We were able to go to her home and help out with the decorations and the games. Each place setting was decorated with tea cup place cards, tea cups of their own for her daughters' guests to take home with them filled with candy and hair bows, and a tea cup and saucer ready for their 'pink tea' to be served in. Each guest was greeted with a tiara for them to design and wear for the party and then were given their own pair of tea gloves.
We slipped out before all of the fun started but we had fun crafts and games lined up for the girls. One of our favorites...Hot Tea Pot (played just like Hot Potato but with a miniature tea pot halfway filled with water) and the other choice of entertainment we came up with was a Tea Bag Toss (played just like Bean Bag Toss but with a tea bags and a tea pot cut out on construction paper!)

We love helping for all events!...big and small!

My Birthday in New York

This month, I had the opportunity to take a brief, yet much need vacation to New York City! I'd never been and had been dying for years to go and visit. I was blessed to be able to experience such a wonderful city and hang out on the busy streets. I was really expecting the trip to be about relaxation, shopping and site-seeing. But fortunately, I ran into so much more!

Our first stop in the NYC was Harlem. In Harlem, we ate at Sylvia's Restaurant and I was impressed with her location on Lenox Avenue. I knew of Sylvia's food products sold in local grocery stores but I had no idea she owned a restaurant...and it was popping in the middle of the day! After reading more about her and how she opened her restaurant, it started to stir up my entrepreneurship spirit. To make things even more inspiring, I read that her children were the ones to continue her legacy by starting the soul food products in grocery stores. The idea of leaving something for your children to expand and build upon is so grand to me.

After eating, we shopped the streets of Harlem which further fired up my business mentality! Everyone had a vendor's license to sell something. Everyone had something to sell, whether it was an original craft, CD's, incense, clothes, or earrings...they were seriously hustling to earn their money!
On the second day of our trip, we jumped on the Water Taxi and headed over to Brooklyn. There, I was faced with more motivation, only this time more directly related to the event planning industry....

There were weddings left and right the entire time we were in Brooklyn. So apparently, wedding pictures off the pier of the Brooklyn dock is the popular trend. The brides were beautiful, the weather was perfect, and business was booming for those photographers.

I really enjoyed my stay in NYC and I can't wait to revisit. I thought I needed the trip for a break, but apparently I needed it for the inspiration!

DJ's Kicking Kickball Party

So my son recently turned 5 and he wanted a party. Normally, the type of party never matters to him...as long as there is fun and gifts, it's a winner for him! DJ loves playing kickball so we thought we'd keep it simple this year and have a Kickball Party. Originally, we invited his family and friends to the kickball field outside, but the rain put a damper on that. So we rented a half court basketball gym inside of North County Recreation Center. It turned out to be a hit!!
We played a round of kickball by splitting up into the 'red' and 'blue' team. After the blue team took the victory, we lined the kids up and played dodge-ball, whoever was hit had to go take a break (with juice and snack) and the winner was rewarded with a trophy! After dodge-ball, we ate and sang Happy Birthday to the VIP of the day. We wrapped up our day with another dodge-ball game but this time 'parents vs kids'.

So with indoor gyms, it's never too cold for a kickball or dodge-ball game! And with family and friends, you're never too old to play kickball!

Renewing Your Vows

7 years ago, my husband and I were young, in love, and out of state away from our families. So, we got married in the courthouse in a judge's chamber. I have a cousin who divorced from his wife and years later, they reconciled and he proposed to her in their home with rollers in her hair while in her bathrobe. Right there on the spot, a family relative, an ordained minister, remarried them in their front room.

Whatever your romantic (or not so romantic) story is, renewing your vows is a lovely way to celebrate your union. Vow renewals can be as creative or as exciting as you want them to be. There are very limited formals to what you cannot do and an wide horizon of all the things you can. (Example - Limited: no bridal showers or bachelor parties; Unlimited: wearing any color wedding dress you want)

Vow renewals can be held during anytime in your marriage, whether it's your 1st, 5th, 25th or 50th anniversary, you can exchange vows all over again. They can be small and intimate or large and lavish. They can be black tie formal or flip flop sandals causal.Or they can be held with just the two of you on the coast of Puerto Rico!

We read online about a couple who travels from city to city and gets remarried all over again. How sweet is that? They have the honor in saying, "I've been married in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City,...and each time, to the same person!"

Start brainstorming for all the things, you wish you had on your wedding day and how you can create them. Think of colors and DIY projects to get your creativity flowing, And don't let those downers get to you! There may be some that don't see the purpose or may feel it's a waste of money. Well, to them, it may be...but for you and the man that you are madly in love with, it's a chance to rejuvenate your feelings or remind each other of your commitment or exchange vows in the house of God or celebrate with your loved ones or much more!

Baby Carrington - Welcome!!!

Celebrating a new life is always a joyous occasion. KayDi's Event Planning & Services loves to throw a baby shower filled with fun! This past weekend we had the pleasure in hosting an small, intimate baby shower. With pink & chocolate polka dots as our color scheme and pink booties to accent the decorations, laughs and lots of love was definitely present. With a combination of a few traditional games and contemporary games, the environment was enjoyable and pleasant.

The crowd pleaser was our Celebrity Mom game we played throughout the shower. When each guest arrived they were given a label with a Celebrity Pregnancy that was put on their back so they couldn't see it. (After each baby shower game, each guest had the chance to ask a question about their unknown celebrity until they figured out who it was.) This contemporary game replaced the traditional "Don't say 'baby'" game and added a little more spice and conversation to the evening!

We're looking forward to our next baby shower in the upcoming month!

First Dance

The ‘First Dance’ is an American & European wedding highlight that has been a tradition in wedding receptions for centuries. Originally, the waltz was the most popular dance to perform, however, over the years; many other dances have been introduced and added to this tradition. Today’s couple wants their first dance to reflect their personalities and at the same time display their passion for each other.
We did a little homework and studied a few dances and made a “First Dance Match Chart”. Which style dance will you and your groom perform for your first dance?
